The History of International Translation
Day
The International Translation Day, as it is officially called
and celebrated all over the world, originated as a tribute to
St. Jerome, a biblical translator, hence the date of September
30th. It has been celebrated since 1953, although the FIT (International
Federation of Translators) launched the International Translation
Day only in 1991.
International
Translation Day
Translation and Human Rights is the theme supplied by FIT The
International Federation of Translators. "The right to express
oneself in one’s language. The right to be served in one’s
language. The right to information. The right to culture. The
right to knowledge. The right to a fair trial. The right to
legal aid. These rights, now known as human rights, could not
be respected if no translator was present."
